Busy week...

I want to apologize to my ec droppers for not visiting your blogs lately. It's been a busy week for me in preparation for the Christmas. Aside from that I was invited to attend a baby shower, 2 caroling parties (one last Friday and today) and I think this Tuesday's event is another party. At home I spent my time with hubby watching TV, shopping for the baby and experimenting some recipes that I wanted to try. I did some christmas shopping also after christmas coz all the christmas items are 50% off which is a good way of saving for the next year. That's what kept me busy last week. So busy huh! :)

Experimenting cookies for Christmas...

I was looking for a cookie recipe lately for Christmas dessert and found the recipes kinda complicated so I keep searching the net til I found a simpler and looks easier to make. So here's my first experience in baking cookies.

It taste good even if some of them are a little over-cooked. Hubby liked it and keep coming back for more. :)

Fil-Am Christmas Party 2008

Hubby and I attended the Fil-Am Christmas party yesterday. It was fun but I was disappointed because the party supposed to start at 1:00 pm but it started I think at 3:00 or 3:30 pm already. Why? Because the president of the group and her sister didn't arrived yet. You know, Filipino time is always late as in very late. Everybody's waiting for them and we're hungry already. Sitting there waiting for them is just a waste of time. Grrrr! Anyways, after the prayer I headed to the long table where all the foods are (coz I'm starving already). What I did was get a plate for me and hubby, spoon, fork and insert in line to get something so I can start eating. Hubby followed where the line is but I can't wait anymore to go into the long line of people. I know that it's not right to just hop in where others are following the line but remember, I'm pregnant and I'm not supposed to starve. I'm just doing what is good for me and my baby in a wrong way. Honestly, I felt bad doing it coz I haven't done it before but I hope they understand that I need to feed the baby in my tummy and not just me.

The tables are full and I can see some of the teenagers eating in one corner standing. It was really crowded. I wasn't able to get enough food for me but at least I had something to put in my stomach before I collapse.

Here they are attacking... the foods! hehe

A game for women after eating. I had fun watching them. :)

Exchanging gift for women.

Singing Christmas songs and of course collecting moolah (a Philippine tradition).

Santa distributing gifts to kids (from the parents of course). :)

And here I am chit chatting with another Pinay about pregnancy. I am the only one pregnant in the group so every now and then my co-pinays asked me about how's my pregnancy, if I have a girl or a boy, when is my due date and etc. I'm not used to this kind of attention when I was in the Philippines but what can I do if fellow Pinays care for me? Besides, it's nice to get some attention from friends here. Now, I'm getting used to it. hehe
Merry Christmas!!!

Otan munggos

This is a Filipino dish that I like to eat occassionally. It's mung beans with different kinds of vegetables so it's good for our health. Yum yum! :)

Me? Fairy God-Mother Preggy?

That's what my two girl friends said last Thursday night while we had our dinner at Outback steakhouse. We planned to meet at 6:00 - 6:30 pm at the restaurant then my friend called me and said that it's dark there coz there's no electricity so they just stayed in the car. I arrived there I think in less than 10 mins. and man, it's really dark in there. The only lights I can see are from the cars and the police car. Looks like the stores didn't have generators except for one grocery store that has dim lights outside and I think the inside too. I then started looking for my friend's car so I can park close to them and maybe decide if we go somewhere else that has electricity. I finally found my friend's car so I parked close to them. I asked my friends if the restaurant is open or not and when my friend is about to ask, the electricity was back. We laughed coz it seems that I'm the one bringing the power back. haha My friends said that pregnant women are lucky. So they said that I'm the fairy God-mother preggy that night. Funny! But we're so lucky that night coz normally Outback steakhouse here is full even at 5 pm but that night we didn't wait for an hour or two just to have a seat. ^_^

Yummy blue crabs!

I was so lucky yesterday that I didn't forget to go to the Asian market coz they have live blue crabs. It's been 2 Thursdays already that I forget to go there then one of my friends said that they already have blue crabs available. I think it's blue crab season this month though I'm not sure if they have crabs last Thursday. Anyways, while I was on my way to the Asian market I was hoping that they have blue crabs for me and my baby. haha That's how I miss the blue crab! I bought 7 live crabs and cooked it before I went out to have dinner with my girl friends. Hubby was surprised to see my crabs at the counter top when he comes home. I put the crabs at the counter top to cool off before I put them in the ziploc individually. He thought they're still alive then he looked around and saw the big pot for cooking the crabs already clean and drying on the rack so he thought maybe the crabs are already dead. hahaha Hubby always feel pity every time I cook the live crabs that's why I cooked them before he arrived or else I'll feel guilty too of cooking the live crabs coz he'll keep checking the crabs in the kitchen and said "poor crabs". Oh well, crabs are delicious and meant to be eaten. hehe

Here they are...

I gave them a bath first before cooking and they are trying to bite me. See the big mouth? :)

Now they're cooked and it's my turn to bite them. hahaha

Unpredictable appetite

I'm not craving for Filipino foods anymore but I eat if it's available. Now I can eat american foods and I like the greek food too. The change of my appetite is kinda crazy coz in the past I don't eat when I need to and now that I gained weight I want to just keep on eating. I don't eat much in the morning though coz I get up at noon but in the evening after dinner I'd like to eat and eat and eat. Whew! I'm afraid that I might have a problem of gaining more than I need to. I think it's nice to be able to eat a little bit of everything and not being told that I can't eat this and that. Maybe my hormone is the one responsible for this change of appetite that I have lately but I still need to control myself (if I can). hehe I'm now waiting for hubby to come home bringing the food that I wanted to eat even if I already had my dinner and a little dessert "biko" (sweet rice with coconut milk and sugar). Poor hubby, but it feels good that he's doing it for me and the baby. Shhhhh

Me at 25 weeks preggy

Busy decorating. ^_^ I almost don't want to decorate coz my back, hip and legs hurt from standing and bending over coz it took me hours to finish putting the ornaments on the tree. But I was thinking also that this will be our last Christmas without the baby yet and I want hubby to take a rest when he comes home from work so I tried to decorate as much as I can. Now we're done with the christmas tree so next is wrapping some gifts and decorating the windows.

Our Christmas tree

I know most people are done decorating with their christmas tree but not me. (smile) It's just that I easily get tired of watching the Christmas tree for a long period of time coz it's in the way so I normally start decorating a week before christmas. Yes, you read that right but today I started decorating because we bought a little christmas tree for my MIL and we need to find the hooks burried in one of the boxes for christmas decors. We finished decorating my MIL's christmas tree but ours is not finish yet coz we ran out of hooks. I need to buy more tomorrow so I can finish decorating then next is gift wrapping, decorating doors and windows then the dining table. Oh boy, our place is now a mess! I hope tomorrow I can finish everything but I doubt it coz I need to rest too. Here's a photo of our "almost finish" christmas tree. :)

Update: Here's the finish product.

Today's travel

Hubby and I traveled today for an hour and a half to reach the place for my appointment. Everything went smooth and I was finish with my appointment after 35 minutes. After that we went to the big mall to see if I can find something I like for Christmas. There are lots of people at the mall and there were police every corner directing the traffic. Wow, I was amazed of how people shop for Christmas! I then felt dizzy, almost breathless and light headed after roaming around in just a few minutes. I'm not sure if it's the long drive that made me feel weak or the lack of sleep because I have to wake up early to prepare for today's travel but I also felt like I had a sea sick. I wanted to look for more at the mall but I decided to go back home coz I wasn't feeling well. We only had lunch at the mall and bought a few items then that's it. Hubby looked so worried if I passed out there so he kept asking me if I'm okay or if I want to shop for more or just go home. Poor hubby. I then felt better when we're on the road already so we decided to shop for our little one's furniture. We arrive home at 5:30 pm but we stopped by at a BBQ restaurant where there are many cars parked outside and at the drive thru. We thought that maybe their BBQ is good so we tried going there and bought pork and chicken BBQ. Now we're tired and sleepy but it's too early to go to bed. Wish I can have a good sleep tonight. :)

I'm not gonna write you a love song

This song from Sara Bareilles entitled Love Song stuck in my head yesterday all day after I heard it on the FM Radio. I don't really know the lyrics but I keep on singing the line that I'm familiar with which is "I'm not gonna write you a love song today" and suddenly after singing it over and over again hubby said, "Not today". haha So funny! Anyways, here's part of the lyrics. *_*

I'm not gonna write you a love song
Cause you ask for it
Cause you need one
You see, I'm not gonna write you a long song
Cause you tell me it's make or breakin' this
If you're on your way I'm not gonna write you to stay
If all you have is leavin' I'm gonna need a better reason
To write you a love song
Today

I need more sleep but how?

We had thunder, lightnings and rain last night which I was thankful because it's nice to sleep when you hear the raindrops falling. Though I wanted to drop ec last night but I turned the computer off early coz I heard some clicks on the wires here inside the office and I'm afraid that the lightning will destroy the computer or something. Because of that I went to bed early but unfortunately I was just staring the ceiling and checking on the clock when I was already in bed. Then comes midnight and I still can't sleep so I get up at 12:30 am, read a book hoping that it will put me to sleep. At 3:00 am I started yawning so I went to bed again and was able to sleep at last. I guess this is a challenge of being a mom, not having enough sleep even if you have time to sleep. It seems that my sleeping habit is a mess now and I am hoping that I can figure out soon of what's the best sleeping position for me. For those who are mom's already, did you experience and feel the same way too? :)

Sleepless nights...

It's been 2 days now that I didn't have a good sleep at night. The other night I wasn't able to sleep til morning coz my baby was awake at night. I tried to find a position where I can at least feel comfortable sleeping even if my baby is doing her exercise but the movement of my tummy bothers me. I think my baby's bones are now getting stronger coz I can feel some strong kick inward, outward and downward. Last night I only had 3 hrs of sleep because of the same reason plus it feels like there's something stuck in my throat and I had acid reflux also. I was hungry at 6 am so I get up and ate a snack then went to bed hoping that I can sleep. Too bad, I still wasn't able to sleep so I get up again and do some arranging in the kitchen, dining table and living room. At 12:30 pm I felt sleepy already. I talked to my little one that mommy need some sleep so she should behave or mommy won't be feeling well the rest of the day. I'm not sure if she really understand what I said but she responded with a kick. Thank God, I had an hour and a half of nap this afternoon coz my baby was sleeping too. hehe So funny, it seems that she listen of what I told her to do! I was energized when I woke up so I continued doing some household chores. I hope tonight I can sleep more than 3 hrs so tomorrow I can do some more chores that needs to be done. :)

Yemas

I was craving for yema/s lately so I made some last Wednesday night. Hubby told me that he never heard of the condensed milk made into a candy so I told him to just watch and see. hehe After I finished cooking the yemas, I started rolling the cooked condensed milk on my hands to make a little circle ones (bite size) which made hubby wonder why I put the hot candied condensed milk on my hands coz it's really hot. haha Well, we pinoys know that once it's cold then it becomes hard also which is very difficult to form it into little circles so I have to sacrifice my hands. The photos below are the result. After making the small circles I transferred them into a separate plastic individually so they become chewy for a longer period of time. Hubby loved it and my friends too. :)

White furniture for our little one?

That's what my mother-in-law told us. I don't know where she get that idea but she was looking at the catalogue in one of the furniture stores here so hubby asked her why she's looking for a furniture and she said that it's for our little girl coz according to her when our baby turns 5 she'll like to have a white furniture. Hmmm Anyways, hubby and I were shopping for a glider today and we saw a white furniture for a girl. It looks neat and clean, nice and pretty but I'm not sure if it's the right one for our little one. I think it's too early to decide for now that the baby is still in my tummy but we'll keep that in mind just in case our little one needs a bigger bed. But I think I like a furniture with lots of storage space coz it's more useful. :)

Cinnamon Rolls

I'm not a fan of cinnamon but when I tried eating one cinnamon roll at the mall a couple of weeks ago I suddenly liked it. The bread is so soft, moist and the topping is really delicious though it's a little messy. So I tried buying a ready to bake cinnamon roll from the store and baked it myself for my snack. The result is not as good as the one I tried at the mall but better than the one I had in one of the fast food chains here. :)

Healthy meal and dessert for my baby...

Honestly, my baby changed my diet. Since I get pregnant, I'm careful of what I eat and try not to eat junk foods or any kind of junk that my baby and I don't need. Before I get pregnant, diet pepsi is my water but I stopped drinking it and drink water instead of soda. I rarely drink coffee and tea because of the caffeine in it and I try to avoid going to fast foods which is an emergency food for me. I'm not a vegetable eater but now I worry if I can't eat vegetables in 1 day. And not only that, I need to eat more protein, calcium and fruits too. It sounds a lot to me because I only eat a little and only 1 or 2 varieties (except at the chinese buffet) but now that my baby is depending on what I eat then I have to feed my baby the healthy foods that she needs. So here are the photos of what I don't like to eat that I tried eating again for my baby.

Mixed green salad with croutons, grilled chicken, cheese, and 1000 island dressing.

For a healthy dessert is strawberry, raspberry, milk, yogurt and vanilla ice cream mixed in the blender. The taste is okay, not great because of the yogurt I think. :)

Fried rice with turkey leftover

My brunch... fried rice with leftover turkey meat and turkey wing.

This is my healthy fried rice with leftover turkey meat. This is already complete coz of the meat, vegetables, fresh herb, spices, eggs and mushroom. I like it and hubby like it too! :)
