My Fritata

I was thinking of what to do with the rest of the turkey leftover coz I don't want to eat the same thing again and again so I grab the recipe book that I like and looked for recipes that I can use for the turkey leftover. I found the fritata easy to do so I tried making it using the turkey leftover instead of deli meat. It's yummy and healthy! :)
Recipe:
celery
carrots
potatoes
scallions
fresh parsley
oil - i use the oil from the bacon
4 eggs - mix together in a separate bowl
cheese - i use monterey jack and cheddar
cooked turkey - slice thinly
Saute' the first five ingredients til they are half cooked. Add the cooked turkey then add the eggs. Once the egg stick to the bottom of the pan, add the cheese on top. Transfer the pan to the preheated oven in 350 deg. The oven will cook the rest of the uncook eggs and melt the cheese. Enjoy!

I'm sick...

I don't know where I got it but I had a sore throat few days ago and it scares me coz every time I have a sore throat (way back when I was in the Philippines) the fever will follow, cough, cold and tonsillitis. The medicine also that I can take now is limited coz I'm pregnant so I have to get an approval from my OBGYN or practitioner before taking anything if I'm seriously sick. Yesterday I started coughing but I've been feeling congested for a week already. I'm not sure if it's because of the cold weather or what but the book I'm reading about pregnancy said that I might be feeling congested on my fifth month. So I was thinking that maybe it's part of being pregnant. Today I'm barking like a dog and blowing my nose. Hubby said that maybe I have a flu and I got it from somebody when I went out last Wednesday. I don't know. I just hope that I'll feel better soon coz my baby might be affected too.

Our Thanksgiving ^_^

I'm not feeling well today because of my sore throat which is also the reason why I didn't have enough sleep last night. But that didn't stop me to celebrate today's holiday. Hubby and I started preparing for our thanksgiving dinner at 4 pm. I cooked the stuffing first, then hubby prepared the turkey and preheated the oven. My lower belly started to hurt so I pause for a while and told hubby about it. He told me to take a rest coz we're not in a hurry. He also said that we should enjoy the thanksgiving. I sat for a few minutes and when I felt okay I went back to the kitchen. Then I cooked the cranberry sauce, pearl onions and last the petite green peas with onions and rice while hubby cooked the sweet potatoes. After 4 hours of preparing and cooking, we're ready to eat. Here are our photos...
Hubby and me.

Me slicing the turkey breast for hubby.

And for me too.

For dessert, coconut cake. Yummy!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Listen to your body

Well, that's what I did yesterday when I was exercising at the fitness center. I was planning to exercise at the treadmill for 30 minutes but I only reach 19 minutes coz the lower part of my belly started to hurt already. I changed the speed slowly before stopping so I won't feel dizzy and drink cold water coz I was a little thirsty. Then I went home right away before something happened to me. I was feeling better after maybe an hour of relaxing while watching TV. Today I went back to the fitness center for my exercise and I am successful this time. I already prepared my cold water in front of the treadmill so if I feel thirsty, I don't need to stop just to drink. I walked at the treadmill for 10 minutes first with 1.5 speed then raise the speed into 2 for 15 minutes then lower the speed back to 1.5 again for 5 minutes and gradually slow down the speed til it reach 0 for a minute or two. So today I had 30 mins. of exercise with the treadmill inclined to level 3 which is a good improvement. I wore my maternity belt today which I think helped me from hurting while I was exercising. I hope I can do this everyday so it would be easy for me to give birth next year. But of course I have to listen to my body or else something bad will happen.

Pancit bihon

That's my snack today after going out to buy something for christmas. I don't know how long I kept this in the freezer but it still taste good. I normally save some leftovers in the freezer to make it sure that when I feel hungry and don't have the time to cook then I can grab something from the freezer and eat. This is yummy with bread. :)

Siopao

This is one of my favorites for a snack when I was in the Philippines. I miss the fresh cooked siopao in the Philippines coz the taste is sooo delicious. I found this siopao in the Filipino store at the freezer so I grab one pack to try if the taste is okay. The dough is okay but the inside is different. I normally ordered the one with a big chunk of meat with a little piece of boiled egg inside. But this one is I think ground meat with some spices. Oh well, it's better than nothing. Want some? :)

Pinoy Society's Thanksgiving Party

Hubby and I went to the Filipino Society's Thanksgiving party today. The party is 1 to 5 pm but the mass finished at 1 pm also so we're late coz we went to the store to buy some dessert and went home to get some drinks. It's almost 2 pm already when we arrived at the party and they just started eating. Some are still in line to get some food and since I was hungry, I grab a plate and didn't think of taking a picture anymore. haha I enjoyed the food. The turkey and gravy taste good. I got fried tilapia fish and baked milkfish too. Yummy yummy! :)

Lack of sleep again

I didn't have enough sleep last night. I went out with friends again for our usual ladies night out and we decided to stay here in the house instead of going to Starbucks so we don't need to worry about the time and continue with our chitchat. We finish chitchatting at 1 am and I went to bed at 2 am. I woke up at 3 am and wasn't able to go back to sleep anymore. I was just lying in bed and try to change position til I can sleep but it didn't help so I get up at 5:30 am and read the book about pregnancy. I was yawning and felt sleepy at 7 am so I went back to bed hoping that I can go back to sleep. I think I fall asleep right away and woke up again at 11 am then I get up at 12 noon to eat lunch. It seems that my growing belly is disturbing my sleep. The book said that I am not suppose to sleep on my back coz of the weight of my tummy is now heavy and not good for my nerves and instestine. I need to sleep on my side now but it's very uncomfortable for me to do it at the moment but then the book explained that it's normal to be uncomfortable at first but someday I'll get use to the new sleeping position. The reason why I don't like to sleep on my side is because I felt like I'm squeezing the baby and I can feel the baby kicking which also wakes me up. Oh boy, I hope I will be able to adopt the new sleeping position soon. I really need to get more zzzzzz. :)

Early Thanksgiving dinner

The Assisted Living Facility where my mother-in-law live had an early thanksgiving dinner yesterday. Hubby and I had a reservation last week so we went there and join with the rest of the residents with their families also. I think there are some whom families didn't attend so they're in a separate table. I enjoyed listening to the violin playing the soundtrack of the "sound of music" movie. Another couple was with us in the same table with the mom who's also one of the residents here and they brought their 4 months old baby. He is sooo cute! I can't stop staring at him. :) Anyways, the food was great except for the candied yam. I liked the carrot cake too as my dessert but I didn't finish it coz the icing is too sweet and I'm full already. haha I'm still thinking what to make for next week's thanksgiving but I'm sure hubby and I will bake turkey and I'll cook my delicious stuffing that hubby like.

Dessert time

A dessert that I copy from the restaurant that hubby and I love. Actually, the cake was from the restaurant. We brought it home coz they served two huge serving of this chocolate cake. We don't want to throw away money by throwing food so we always bring our left over. I know that in the Philippines, if you bring left over that means you're poor. But here, I don't care what people think. Besides, most people bring home their left over too which means we're not alone. hehe So what I did with the cake was, add a vanilla bean ice cream and topped it with hershey's syrup just like the one we had in the restaurant. It looks fancy and yummy! Love it! :)

Chicken soup with no chicken

We bought a rotisserie chicken and I save the bones for the soup. I saw this frugal way of making a soup using the chicken bones at the food network show. So I tried it and it really worked. The soup is so yummy. I just add water to the bones then cooked (left over) rice, carrots, ginger and scallions. Boil and simmer til the rice becomes soft. Serve hot as a snack. :)

Two little girls

2 little girls on a chair Pictures, Images and Photos

That's what my mother-in-law said last weekend when we visit her that she saw two little girls who wanted to play with the keyboard when she was practicing to use the computer again. Hubby and I were confused if she's seeing invisible kids in the her room. Hubby asked her if she started seeing kids just like her older sister when she was at the ALF seeing 3 kids playing in the cabinet and dead people visiting her. My mother-in-law answered "No, these are the future kids. The third one hasn't come out yet." Toink! She said that her left eye can see the 2 little girls. I wonder if I'm going to have a twin but the ultrasound only showed one baby not two. So I was thinking, if there are two little girls then maybe I'll get pregnant right after the other one with a girl again. Hmm That's interesting! But hubby said that my mother-in-law is just making a story. I hope so coz I want to enjoy spending time with our first child before having the second one. Maybe she's right that we're having 2 girls but we'll see. :)

Crawfish again!

Every Sunday after church hubby and I go directly to the Chinese buffet coz I love to eat the crawfish. It seems that there's something in it that is addictive. nyahahaha Or maybe my baby just want me to eat some coz she like it. hehe According to the book that I've been reading about pregnancy that if a pregnant woman is craving for something then that something is what the baby needs or wants. Like craving for peanut butter, that means that the baby needs protein or if I crave for liver then the baby wants some iron. I don't know if it's really true coz some moms like to eat sweets which is not good for the baby unless you eat sweets in moderation. Maybe there's something in the crawfish that's why I like it. :)

Fun time with friends...

As what I mentioned in my previous post, I went out last night to my friend's house for a "cook off". It's actually a "Mommy's night out" coz the husbands were baby sitting the kids while the wives are enjoying the Filipino foods. haha As usual jokes and chit chats are always part of the get together plus dancing and singing karaoke. I just ate, listen to their stories and advice and laugh coz I'm too full to do the dancing and singing. haha Yeah, my tummy was tight and it feels like it's going to burst so I just sit back and relax. The food were so tempting but still I wasn't able to try all of what's on the table. I made it sure that I ate vegetables first for my baby before eating other foods. The dessert are yummy but I only ate 1 little piece of "food for the god" and that's it. The pancit bihon was great coz Ilocana cooked it. haha Good thing that there were left overs so I had a chance to bring home the food that I didn't eat. Yum yum! :)

I'm exercising today

Yes, I went to the fitness center today and had my 15 minutes walking exercise at the treadmill. I had the treadmill incline into 3 and the speed is 2.0. I went there last Monday also but I only exercise for 10 minutes as what the practitioner instruct me to do for the first time. The fitness center is next to the apartment office and just a walking distance from our apartment. I felt energized after my 15 mins. exercise and I was thirsty when I arrived home. Now I feel sleepy again. I better take a nap before going out to my friend's house for a gathering tonight. I'm sure my tummy will be one of the topic of tonight's chika. :)

Me and my baby like to sleep...

I don't know if my baby understand me if I'm talking to her but it seems that she understand what I said. I read in the pregnancy book that my baby's ears are now formed and she can now hear sounds from the outside but won't be able to interpret them yet. I had a sleeping problem for the past few weeks and I talked to my baby that she should sleep when it's time for mommy to go to bed coz mommy needs some rest. Then I noticed lately that my baby like to sleep most of the time. She likes to sleep at night and during the day and only wake up when she's hungry or if I'm standing/sitting for hours. Last night while I was in bed ready to sleep, my baby was moving and kicking and after a few minutes she stopped moving which I think means she's asleep again. It seems that she's looking for the right position and location in my uterus and when she's comfortable where she's at then she sleep. It amazed me how she behaves lately. I now experienced having a good sleep at night and can take a nap during the day. Thank God! ^_^

Me at 20 weeks preggy

Me with my little growing tummy at 20 weeks. I received comments about my little tummy specially if I'm with other Pinays at the party or gatherings. It's nice to hear good advice from those who have kids already but of course there are unwanted advice which I don't want to hear like the myth of eating for two. It seems that some moms who eat for two when they were pregnant want me to do the same thing also. But my mother-in-law and my Aunt told me that their OBGYN told them not to eat for two and that's what my OB told me also. Well, eating for two is just a myth that will lead to C section because the baby becomes big which I don't want to experience if possible. Besides, gaining too much weight is not good for me or the baby. Though it's possible to have a C section for some reason like cord coil but we can't do anything about it. One Pinay friend who have 4 grown up kids told me to listen to her coz she's more experienced than others. And her advice? "Don't make your baby grow so big inside your tummy, let the baby grow when the baby is born". And I believe her. :)

Autumn Leaves

I like watching the different colors of leaves now that they are changing and started falling. I told hubby that his mom might like to watch the different colors of leaves and since we don't have any plans for today, hubby asked me if we can take his mom out for a tour and I agreed. It took us an hour and a half just roaming around. We were tired and hungry after so we headed to the steak house restaurant and had our dinner. I took some photos to share and here they are...

Fish fish and more fish!

Thursday is my grocery day at the Asian Market coz the vegetables are fresh, meat, shrimps and yesterday they have fish. I have no idea what the name of the fish but I bought one just to experiment if it's any good or not. I tried fish stew in the past using the frozen fish but the taste was not as good as the one I had in the Philippines using the fresh fish in the market. So I cut the fish that I bought yesterday in half then I cooked the head as my fish stew and I fried the tail part. The result? Oh la la So yummy and delicious! I never regret buying it. It taste soooo good which reminds me of Philippines fish stew. I ate a lot of rice last night and was stuffed coz I got carried away with the taste. haha Hubby smiled every time I complained that I'm soooo full. I decided to buy some more fish today and was thinking of how I cooked it and how much fish I want to buy. I was also praying that nobody buy the fish earlier today so I can buy some more. I went to the Asian market before 2 pm and was glad that there's more fish waiting for me. haha I planned to buy 5 but I decided to buy 6. I experiment with the rest of the fish so next time I know what's the best recipe for it. I cleaned all of them, removing the scales for more than an hour I think and preparing for the next recipe.

Here they are...

Do you know what fish is this? I don't and I'll be happy if you can tell me the name of this fish. :)

Fish heads with vinegar, garlic and salt. Not so good. But yesterday's fish stew was superb. Too bad I didn't have a picture of it because I'm too excited to eat. haha But yesterday's recipe was just sliced tomato, scallions, salt, fresh lemongrass and water. :)

Fried fish with salt... Delish!

Grilled. The result is yummy!

I still have some uncooked fish (cleaned) in the freezer. I wanted to cook them all and freeze them later but I want to know if the taste is still the same even if I put them in the freezer for weeks so next time I already know if I buy more or not. I'm hoping for a good result of my experiment and I wish the Asian market will sell this fish again in the future.

Fried Plantain Banana

As I was blog hopping and ec dropping, I found a blog who posted a yummy fried plantain banana. So I bought one plantain banana and experiment adding brown sugar while frying. The brown sugar didn't coat all the way on the banana but still the result is yummy. I ate all of it and didn't leave any for hubby. hahaha

I need to sleep 8 to 12 hours a day?

That's what the practitioner told me during my last visit and she said that I shouldn't feel guilty for sleeping most of the time. She advice me to take a nap whenever I have a chance coz pregnant woman needs to have enough rest because of the baby. I was stunned hearing it because I've been sleeping like I already have a newborn with me. The baby keeps me awake when it's time for me to sleep coz the baby like to move. I don't know if she's exploring my uterus or just playing with her body parts of how it works. I sometimes sleep 2 hours only then wake up because I felt like I want to go to the bathroom and after a few minutes I felt like the baby is knocking my tummy asking for food. And if I can't go back to sleep after an hour or two I get up and eat something. It takes 3 to 4 hours before I can go back to sleep after eating. And while I'm in my deep sleep, the lamp turn ON to wake up hubby so he can get ready for work. Hubby turn OFF the lamp before taking a shower so I can go back to sleep. I can only have a few minutes of nap and hubby wake me up again to kiss goodbye. Then during the day I don't feel sleepy anymore especially if I'm watching TV shows that I'm interested in. Good thing that my baby is so nice to me for 2 nights. I was able to sleep straight without waking up at night. My baby likes to sleep more lately and she now knows how to move slowly if she's awake. Well, that's good for me but last night I had 3 hours of sleep again and woke up to go to the bathroom. I wasn't hungry nor thirsty but even if I'm back in bed my mind was awake even if my eyes are close until morning. Grrrrrrrrr

My baby's first hiccup

Last night as I was laying in bed ready to sleep the baby slowly moving and suddenly I felt that something pop in my tummy like a popcorn jumping from the pan but with a different sound which I first heard last night. I wonder what it was then I realized that it was the baby having a hiccup. It sounds sooo cute and I laughed after I figured that the baby had a hiccup coz I didn't expect it to happen. Though the book that I read says that I might be able to feel when the baby have a hiccup but I thought that maybe I can feel it on the third trimester. Hubby was amazed when I told him about it. It was fun hearing the hiccup and it surely put a smile on my face when I sleep.

Here's what the book "Great Expectations: Pregnancy and Childbirth" wrote for Week 14.

Development (baby): Your baby rarely sits still. She's often wiggling fingers and toes, yawning, and hiccupping. However, you probably won't be able to feel the movements for another month or so.

I'm now in week 19 and I felt the baby's first hiccup just in time. :)

Advance shopping for Halloween...

Hubby and I were shopping today for next year's Halloween decorations. Why? Because it's on sale for 50% off. I was thinking also that next year I might not want to shop with the baby so I took advantage of the sale items today. Next year I'm ready without shopping. :)
